Active Threat Preparedness Information

An active threat, by definition, is an individual or individuals actively engaged in killing or attempting to harm or kill people in a populated area. Recent active shooter incidents have underscored the need for a coordinated effort between private and public sectors to prevent, or respond, to such incidents. Through information sharing and awareness building, local law enforcement and their partners aim to protect our most valuable resource - people -  in public gathering places and communities.

This three-hour workshop is an opportunity for you to hear from the experts about active threats and how to respond, crime prevention through environmental design, infrastructure protection and so much more.  The team of presenters includes members of the Buffalo Police Department including the Buffalo Police Department's SWAT team, the Department of Homeland Security, Border Community SERVICE of Niagara University, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation Special Events/Mass Gathering department.

The workshop is free and open to partners of Visit Buffalo Niagara, the Buffalo Niagara Sports Commission, festival and event planners, venue and athletic field/arena operations managers, educational institutions, houses of worship and anyone interested in learning how to respond should a crisis situation occur.
