The Employee Retention Credit (ERC) can be a very beneficial tax credit for employers whose businesses suffered gross receipts declines or were suspended by government orders due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020-21. Unfortunately, many promoters and marketers have taken advantage of this opportunity to convince businesses to claim the ERC, even though they may not be eligible. The ERC is a very complicated tax credit, and the IRS is now starting to crack down on ERC claims, leaving many businesses questioning whether they were even eligible to claim it.
