Director of Fleet Operations
Position: Director of Fleet Operations
Location: Buffalo, NY
Compensation: $110,000 - 130,000/annually, based on experience
What We Are Looking For
The Director of Fleet Operations is responsible for fleet maintenance operations across the entire NOCO organization. This role is accountable for keeping company vehicles reliable, road-ready, compliant, and operating within budget. The position is responsible for leading the fleet and maintenance team, managing third-party vendors, controlling costs, and overseeing vehicle lifecycle planning.
What You Will Do
- Lead and manage the fleet and maintenance team, including performance oversight, staffing, and training.
- Oversee maintenance and operation of all NOCO fleet vehicles across the company.
- Ensure vehicles are safe, compliant with DOT and regulatory requirements, and available for business use.
- Develop and manage preventive and corrective maintenance programs to minimize downtime.
- Control fleet and maintenance costs, including third-party vendor and contractor spend.
- Select, manage, and evaluate vendors, dealers, and contractors providing fleet-related services.
- Develop and manage fleet budgets; track expenses and address variances.
- Review and approve capital equipment and vehicle purchases in accordance with corporate guidelines.
- Use fleet management systems to monitor maintenance activity, utilization, and costs.
- Analyze operational and financial data to identify issues, trends, and improvement opportunities.
- Ensure maintenance facilities are adequately staffed and technicians are trained and qualified.
- Support fleet sizing, vehicle specifications, and replacement planning.
- Oversee disposal of surplus or obsolete vehicles and equipment.
- Ensure adherence to NOCO safety standards and applicable regulations.
- Coordinate with internal departments to support operational needs and maintain vehicle availability.
Supervision
- Responsible for general supervision of staff and development; this includes but is not limited to establishing staffing levels, scheduling, training, written evaluations, spot checks on quality, payroll and additional pay incentives.
- Work with corporate Human Resources to build and develop talent on the team, understand employees' career goals and provide coaching to get employees ready for advancement.
- Supervise and manage performance; ensure tasks are appropriately delegated and completed by monitoring performance and holding employees accountable for meeting expectations.
- Provide ongoing coaching and feedback to team members. Deliver corrective action and discipline when necessary, and document all performance issues.
- Ensure employees adhere to company policies and legal regulations and engage HR when appropriate. Actively support all corporate policies and standard operating procedures.
- Manage conflict and crisis; proactively anticipate, manage, and constructively resolve disputes and disagreements.
Safety
- Ensure full compliance with DOT regulations and applicable safety requirements.
- Set, communicate, and reinforce fleet and maintenance safety expectations.
- Lead safety orientation, training, and ongoing coaching for all fleet and maintenance team members.
- Ensure adherence to company safety policies; address safety violations promptly and appropriately.
- Maintain clean, orderly, and safe maintenance facilities in compliance with company standards and OSHA requirements.
- Conduct or ensure completion of regular safety inspections.
- Ensure all accidents, incidents, and near misses are reported, investigated, and documented in accordance with company policy.
- Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions, including training or discipline, as required.

What You Will Need
- High School Diploma or GED, Associate’s Degree preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years of relevant work experience.
- Minimum of 5 years in a supervisory capacity
- Ability to interface effectively with people at all levels of the organization.
- Excellent verbal communication skills both one-on-one and in speaking before a group.
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with all company divisions in a way that promotes supervisory success as well as overall company success.
- Strength in initiative-taking, and a demonstrated track record in proactively identifying improvement opportunities and acting upon them.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks demanding immediate attention, and to juggle multiple, on-going, concurrent responsibilities.
- Ability to work efficiently and maximize productivity.
- Commitment to integrity and ethical behavior and the proven ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Competency in the following computer programs: MS Excel, Word, Outlook. Knowledge of Trimble system is a plus.
