AAUW: Book Sale & Cash for College

You probably know the American Association of University Women (AAUW) for the giant book sale to raise money for scholarships. (Yes – there will be another book sale in 2026.)

The volunteers take great pride in awarding the many scholarships funded by the annual scholarship book sale. Thanks to the success of the book sales, AAUW has even more scholarship opportunities to offer this year.

AAUW scholarships are different from other scholarships in many ways. Merit-based scholarships are more generous than many others, are paid directly to the student, can be used for any expenses a student may have, do not require submission of any financial information, and can be used for any course of study at any accredited institution of higher learning. And unlike many others, there are scholarships for students at all levels – graduate as well as undergraduate.

This year there is a new category called Adult Learners in Transition (ALT) - meant to address the needs of “non-traditional” students. There are many students who have had to take time off and are now returning to college, or attending part-time, changing careers, need to upgrade skills to remain competitive in today’s job market, or just don’t fit the qualifications for our existing scholarships. Also, there is a new scholarship for a student actively involved in journalism.

AAUW volunteers are standing by to accept scholarship applications and recommend awards. Most scholarship applications are due February 13, 2026.
